A Decade
A new decade.
How can it be only a decade?
I have lived multiple lifetimes, been multiple people.
Every cell in your body is renewed within a ten-year span, and I can say the same for every part of my mind and soul.
No part of the person who entered this decade has made it through to the end.
Every cell, every thought, every desire, action, and dream, every whisper of who I was has died in the past decade.
Ten years ago I was saying: I am Jara Vegter. I am Married. I am slightly overweight. I am 23. I am unable to control my temper. I am a brunette. I am an ice cream store owner. I am an avid soccer fan. I am constantly looking for the next party. I am shy & insecure. I am afraid of so many things. I am not happy with any part of myself, inside or out. I am settled. I am doing the “right things”. I am an “Amsterdammer”.
No longer are any of these truths. Every part of who that person was has perished.
Not only am I none of the above, but I have stated so many “I am’s” along the way.
I am a redhead. I am shorthaired. I am lonely. I am bankrupt. I am cheating. I am a homebody. I am an employee. I am homeless. I am separated. I am ashamed. I am broke. I am broken. I am unworthy. I am a failure. I am loud. I am a know it all. I am a nomad. I am always learning. I am single. I am a Stoic. I am wise. I am calm. I am beautiful. I am happy… etc.
I Am.
The only constant, the only part which has remained the same. My spirit awakening to the essence of who I AM. I am the creator, every day, every moment I get to decide, to create the world I live in. I get to embrace the I am I am.
I AM so excited for this next decade.
Unlike the last time, I am aware of the potential it carries, awake to the limitless possibilities and purpose it holds. I hold. I can feel it in every current cell of my body, they vibrate with the energy of purpose, of the desire to create, to change, to impact. To be.
Can you feel it?
Feel your potential? Your power? Your desire?
Embrace it, celebrate it, the present moment– all we have– and the infinite possibilities it holds. Because YOU are the I AM.
